Pinnacle Salted Caramel

19 Feb

Salted Caramel Pinnacle

I have pretty warm feelings about this vodka. It’s got tons of caramel flavor without being too sweet and syrupy, but also has a pronounced burn. It almost feels like I’m drinking a coffee flavoring that will get me deliciously drunk. As a matter of fact, if you slip this in your coffee I won’t judge.

It’s New Years [ed. note: well, it was] and something has to get you through that bubbling hangover brought on by cheap carbonated wine. Also I am declaring today National Mimosa Day due to the hoards of discounted “champagne” being offered at your local grocer. Someone send the memo to Obama.

Pinnacle Cake / Cinnamon Roll Cinnabon / Peachberry Cobbler / Pecan Pie

4 Pinnacle Mini

My local alphabet store is generally pretty disappointing in the mini bottle selections. Occasionally a new one I actually want will straggle though, but for the most part it’s random hobo brands I’ve never heard of. This time was a Festivus Miracle. Pinnacle has a holiday pack of 8 (non-repeating) mini bottles for only $6!!! The lady at the counter may or may not have thrown in a free Pinnacle Cinnabon mini with my order. It was one of the best values sets I’ve seen and a god send for a poor blogger attempting to keep both her semi-sobriety and bank account intact through the holidays. So you get a string of Pinnacle reviews in the upcoming weeks.

Cake – This stuff definitely tastes of vanilla. And it’s sweet. Other than that, I’m not sure I could distinguish this from say a marshmallow flavored vodka. Or a cotton candy vodka. It’s not too harsh, and it should be an easy hit with lovers of the OG Pinnacle Whipped. This one gets a CHUG on flavor alone, though for my money I’d probably prefer to tough it out with vanilla Burnett’s instead.

Cinnabon – The problem I’ve noticed with baked goods flavored vodkas is that it is hard to nail all the different flavors involved with them. Take a chocolate chip cookie. You need the buttery vanilla of the cookie and the semi-sweet chocolate of the cips. Even one of those factors is hard to nail but throw in two and the game is over. I have to say that this cinnamon vodka could easily have strayed into either vanilla overload or just another cinnamon shot but surprisingly it managed a pretty good and true to life mix of the two. I think it’s safe to say I could have guessed what flavor this was without being told and it’s surprisingly addictive to boot. It is sweet enough without being cloyingly so and makes you immediately wish for another. Pinnacle hit a homerun with this one so it goes without saying it get a CHUG!

Peachberry Cobbler – I hadn’t heard of this particular Pinnacle offering. It’s not too surprising since I’ve never heard peachberry cobbler to begin with. I didn’t have too high a hope for this vodka but I was pleasantly surprised. The peachy berriness is pretty good and though I wouldn’t go so far as to claim cobblerness, it is tasty. It’s not my favorite ever, but it is drinkable and maybe some people will really like this. I just wouldn’t buy a whole bottle. CHUG!

Pecan Pie (snippet of original review that can be read HERE) – I think this vodka is drinkable, and even likeable. But it does not taste like pecan pie. This tasted like goddamn Frangelico. That’s not a bad thing, but pecan pie it ain’t. It’ll get a CHUG from me, but barely.

UV Salty Watermelon

UV Salty Watermelon

It’s been a while since I’ve found a liquor to be excited about that I can actually purchase at our local ABC store. Generally our super fucky system means not everything is orderable or buyable right at release. If it’s a pumpkin flavored vodka, and it’s after Thanksgiving you’re reaaaal fucked. So I wandered up and down the aisles, halfhearted looking for something with real possibility and a cheap price tag. Salted watermelon sounded a little weird but hell at least it was something new. And it was under $15 a bottle. FUCK YES!

Holy fuck, I love this stuff. Sure the salty flavored reminds me of a cheap margarita flavored malt beverage, but the underlying watermelon flavor just works somehow. And while 60 proof isn’t the most potent proof point, it’s respectable enough for a flavored vodka like this. I will guess that some of you may find the salty flavor off-putting, but for the cheap price I think you should take the risk, and CHUG!

Pinnacle Whipped

It shocked me that I hadn’t reviewed this vodka before because I have damn sure drank it. I thought I loved this vodka! And then I tried it warm with other vodkas as the warm up acts and let me tell you: some of it’s charm dissipated. What I always took as a smooth and flavored shot quickly revealed itself to be an overly sweet sugar bomb that is best relegated to a one night stand rather than a long term relationship. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of people who need these types of sugar levels to handle a shot. I take no issue with that. I personally would rather get a cheaper alternative (BURNETTS MOTHERFUCKER) or use it to sweeten another drink (think hot chocolate.)  This will get a CHUG but beware it’s cloying sweetness.

Absolut Cherrykran / Burnett’s Strawberry Banana

Absolut Cherrykran and Burnetts strawberry banana

Absolut Cherrykran (80prf) – This is flavored with cherries, white cranberry, and plum. I’m going to say in theory that sounds pretty fucking amazing. In reality it suffers from the problem I find with a lot of Absolut’s flavored line: it just is not sweet enough. It smells amazing but that flavor never really translates well onto the tongue. I also found it vaguely medicinal. There may be a drink or mix this would work perfectly with, possibly a flavored/infused syrup. As is, straight up I’m giving it a CHUCK.

Burnett’s Strawberry Banana (70prf) – This smelled pretty good and the taste didn’t disappoint. It is fruity and delicious without being overly sweet. It very much reminds me of strawberry banana yogurt. In a very good way. This one, like most of Burnett’s offerings gets a CHUG.

Absolut Hibiskus

Absolut Hibiskus

I thought this looked kind of dumb, but figured I have been such a lazy fuck that I need to start running down some reviews. Look at those dumb flowers, that shit looks like the inside print on a Roxy bag. Luckily beyond the flowers there was booze. It smelled like tropical fruit, and maybe hibiskus which is the dumbest word in the English language. The weird thing about Absolut flavoring is the lack of sweetness to it. It tastes like it smells, but I am too used to overly sweet vodkas. Then I threw this shit into some Sprite and it was magical! Also try cream soda as a mixer.
